Farm walks and talks
Farm walks and indoor talks
Over the last few years we have invited members of the public, friends, and family, onto the farm to see what we are up to. We can talk about, and show you, a wide range of topics depending upon your interests, time of year, and the demographic of the audience. We can also provide an illustrated presentation, with very little text and lots of pictures.
We can provide walks on Slattenslade Farm, an upland Exmoor farm growing beef cattle and grass fed lambs, and our native breed pigs. At Silkenworthy Farm we can show you cattle, herbal leys, ponds, trees and nature. We can also explore a moorland farm, and the sheep, cattle, red deer and other wildlife that call it home.
Topics we can cover:
-
Nature friendly farming, what we are doing to enhance nature
-
Rotational grazing, why it works and the benefits to the livestock and the environment
-
Beef cattle, particularly our Stabiliser cattle and how we farm cattle profitably
-
Grass fed sheep, hill breeds, and lambing
-
Native breed pigs and how we farm them sustainably outdoors and the fascinating things they’ve taught us
-
Soil health, you are what you eat, and healthy food starts with the soil that supports all life. It is a living entity in its own right
-
Trees and farming: shelter, shade, browse, and more. Farming and our landscape would be very different without trees
-
Farming and family life
-
Our farming journey, the ups and downs and how we have developed the farming and our farming system
-
Our meat, the whole story of field to fork
-
Anne can also provide a perspective from her work as a Farm Environment Adviser working on farmers across Exmoor and Greater Exmoor on a variety of projects and topics for the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group SouthWest (www.fwagsw.org.uk)

Feedback:
'Anne was terrific - gave us a coherent and wide ranging talk/walk in a professional and very pleasant manner. I learnt a lot!' (September 2024)

'We've just had our U3A Natural World group annual review of activities and your contribution at Silkenworthy came out on top for interest and clarity of presentation. Now, if this sounds like I am buttering you up it sounds right! I'm asking if you could do us a visit to your other farm next year?' (October 2024)
